i was inspired by a documentary on tv where a bathynomus giganteus was shown. this animal is similar to our common woodlouse, or assel in german. we know them as tiny bug-like looking animals living under rocks or in our cellars.
but bathynomus giganteus is different. it lives underwater, can handle very much water pressure and - has the size of a small dog!
this impressive crustacean (all isopoda, even the common woodlouse are crustacean, not insects!) perfectly fit into our falls-users-nektones - concept. it grazes the benthos and makes its living from dead and rotten animal bodies sunken down to the ground. as an exemplary user this animal is the link closing the circle of life.
benthos_a ist eyne von zween studien, welche ich schrieb über den meeresboden als lebensraum für fremdarthige und (noch) unbekannte thiere. angeregt wurde ich dazu von eyner documentation, in welcher ich eynen bathynomus giganteus erblickte. dieses krebsthier, welches mit der uns bekannten kellerassel (ebenfalls den krebsen zugehörig) eng verwandt ist, unterschied sich vor allem in seynen ausmaszen dramatisch von seynen arthverwandten: es hat die grösze eynes schoszhundes!
das thier lebt auf dem meeresgrund und weidet das benthos, die dortige lebenswelt also, ab und lebt auch von todten meeresthieren, die, auf den meeresboden sinkend, langsam verrotten. in anlehnung an unser cd-koncept falls-user-nektones ist diese meeresassel damit der exemplarische nutzer und bindestück im kreis des lebens, wie er durch nekton falls beschrieben wird.
